Sir Keir Starmer has said Andy Burnham will make a good prime minister as Labour MPs begin formally nominating his successor. The Metropolitan Police has opened an investigation into £40,000 that was donated to Newark's Reform UK MP Robert Jenrick. The donation was made when Mr Jenrick was campaigning to succeed Rishi Sunak as the Conservative Party's leader in 2024 - a contest he lost to Kemi Badenoch. Mr Jenrick then defected to Nigel Farage's Reform, but The i Paper now reports that police are looking into the origins of Mr Jenrick's £40,000 donation whilst he was still in the Conservative Party.
