1 Introduction Male infertility is a worldwide health problem affecting about 7% of adult human males (Krausz and Riera-Escamilla, 2018). Despite the considerable research effort, in a large proportion of infertile males the cause of their infertility is unknown (idiopathic), whereas genetic factors have been considered as a major contributing cause for them (Hwang et al., 2010).
