1 Background Oral anticoagulants, comprising warfarin and the direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs), are indicated for stroke prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) who are at increased risk for clotting complications [1]. However, because oral anticoagulants interfere with the normal hemostatic process, their use is complicated by an increased risk of bleeding [2].
