1 Introduction More than 14 million people are estimated to suffer from a hip fracture each year worldwide [1]. Despite meticulous care, complications can still arise during or after surgery. Post-operative delirium is such a complication, with a reported incidence ranging from 17% to 53%, and as such, hip fracture patients are more prone to delirium than any other orthopaedic population [2, 3]. Hip fracture patients are often elderly, frail, and have multiple comorbidities [4].
