Abstract The use of an endogenous stimulus instead of external trigger has an advantage for targeted and controlled release in drug delivery. Here, we report on cascade nanoreactors for bacterial toxin-triggered antibiotic release by wrapping calcium peroxide (CaO2) and antibiotic in a eutectic mixture of two fatty acids and a liposome coating.

Glutathione (GSH) is an important antioxidant and plays crucial roles in basic biological functions. So far, it still remains a challenge to develop convenient and reliable ways to quantify and monitor the changes of GSH levels. Herein, we have developed a simple, sensitive and label-free fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET)-based probe for GSH with MnO2 nanosheets as energy acceptor and silica coated CdSe/ZnS quantum dots (QDs) as energy donor.

Photodynamic therapy as a non-invasive approach has obtained great research attention during the last decade. However, photodynamic therapy still suffers from low tumor selectivity and therapeutic efficacy due to the unspecific distribution of photosensitizer in normal tissues/cells. To overcome these hurldes, functional peptides have been introduced in photodynamic therapy systems due to their advantages of functional diversity, bioactivty, high biocompability and biodegradability.
