1 INTRODUCTION With the swift worldwide spread of the novel SARS-Cov-2 virus in December 2019 causing Corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19), a global healthcare workforce rapidly faced a new, unknown and extraordinary work situation (WHO, 2020). Sweden, among other countries in Europe, was initially hit hard with an exceeded mortality rate and overwhelming need for more intensive care units (ICUs).
