Bio-inspired antioxidant stabilization for efficient tin-lead and all-perovskite tandem solar cells
Abstract The development of high-performance narrow-bandgap tin-lead (Sn-Pb) perovskite solar cells (PSCs) is fundamental to surpassing the Shockley-Queisser limit via all-perovskite tandem configurations. Nevertheless, the vulnerability of Sn2+ to oxidation in Sn-Pb perovskite films and devices remains a formidable obstacle to achieving superior film quality and competitive power conversion efficiency (PCE).
Recycling of spin-triplet excitons in organic photovoltaics
Abstract Non-geminate recombination in organic photovoltaics (OPVs) forms low-energy spin-triplet excitons (T1) that are known to result in irreversible, non-radiative relaxations1,2,3,4,5. Here we experimentally show in an OPV system incorporating a non-fullerene acceptor with a narrowed singlet–triplet gap that T1 excitons can be redissociated through the interfacial charge-transfer state to form free carriers.
Photoluminescent delocalized excitons in donor polymers facilitate efficient charge generation for high-performance organic photovoltaics - Nature Communications
Abstract Efficient delocalization of photo-generated excitons is a key to improving the charge-separation efficiencies in state-of-the-art organic photovoltaic (OPV) absorber. While the delocalization in non-fullerene acceptors has been widely studied, we expand the scope by studying the properties of the conjugated polymer donor D18 on both the material and device levels.

Abstract Solution-processed metal halide perovskites are widely studied for their potential in high-efficiency light-emitting diodes, yet they are facing several challenges like insufficient brightness, short operational lifetimes, and reduced power conversion efficiency under practical operation conditions.

19.5% Inverted organic photovoltaic with record long-lifetime via multifunctional interface engineering featuring radical scavenger - Nature Communications
Abstract Advances in improving the operational lifetime of highly efficient organic photovoltaic (OPV) and understanding photo-degradation mechanisms in molecular level are currently limited, especially on the promising inverted OPV, posing critical challenges to commercialization.

Device deficiency and degradation diagnosis model of Perovskite solar cells through hysteresis analysis - Nature Communications
Abstract While operational stability has evolved to be the primary issue for the practical applications of perovskite solar cells (PSCs), the understanding of the origins of device degradation is still limited.

A microsized optical spectrometer based on an organic photodetector with an electrically tunable spectral response - Nature Electronics
Abstract Miniaturized optical spectrometers could be of use in portable and wearable applications. Such devices have typically been based on arrays of photodetectors that provide distinct spectral responses or use complex miniaturized dispersive optics. However, these approaches often result in large centimetre-sized systems.
The role of interfacial donor–acceptor percolation in efficient and stable all-polymer solar cells - Nature Communications
Abstract Polymerization of Y6-type acceptor molecules leads to bulk-heterojunction organic solar cells with both high power-conversion efficiency and device stability, but the underlying mechanism remains unclear. Here we show that the exciton recombination dynamics of polymerized Y6-type acceptors (Y6-PAs) strongly depends on the degree of aggregation.
Mask-inspired moisture-transmitting and durable thermochromic perovskite smart windows - Nature Communications
Abstract Thermochromic perovskite smart windows (TPWs) are a cutting-edge energy-efficient window technology. However, like most perovskite-based devices, humidity-related degradation limits their widespread application. Herein, inspired by the structure of medical masks, a unique triple-layer thermochromic perovskite window (MTPW) that enable sufficient water vapor transmission to trigger the thermochromism but effectively repel detrimental water and moisture to extend its lifespan is developed.
Long-lived and disorder-free charge transfer states enable endothermic charge separation in efficient non-fullerene organic solar cells
Abstract Organic solar cells based on non-fullerene acceptors can show high charge generation yields despite near-zero donor–acceptor energy offsets to drive charge separation and overcome the mutual Coulomb attraction between electron and hole.
Highly efficient all-inorganic perovskite solar cells with suppressed non-radiative recombination by a Lewis base
Abstract All-inorganic perovskite solar cells (PVSCs) have drawn increasing attention because of their outstanding thermal stability. However, their performance is still inferior than the typical organic-inorganic counterparts, especially for the devices with p-i-n configuration.
Surpassing the 10% efficiency milestone for 1-cm2 all-polymer solar cells
Abstract Naphthalenediimide-based n-type polymeric semiconductors are extensively used for constructing high-performance all-polymer solar cells (all-PSCs). For such all-polymer systems, charge recombination can be reduced by using thinner active layers, yet suffering insufficient near-infrared light harvesting from the polymeric acceptor. Conversely, increasing the layer thickness overcomes the light harvesting issue, but at the cost of severe charge recombination effects.
Reduced Open-Circuit Voltage Loss for Highly Efficient Low-Bandgap Perovskite Solar Cells via Suppression of Silver Diffusion
Reduced Open-Circuit Voltage Loss for Highly Efficient Low-Bandgap Perovskite Solar Cells via Suppression of Silver Diffusion The development of low bandgap perovskite solar cells is important as the current best perovskite solar cells are not based on light harvesting layer with ideal bandgap and the low bandgap materials can also be used together with large bandgap materials to construct all-perovskite tandem cells with potentially higher power conversion efficiencies.
Recent Advances in Semi-Transparent Polymer and Perovskite Solar Cells for Power Generating Window Applications
Semi-transparent photovoltaic (ST-PV) technologies can be applied to replace facades and roofs in conventional buildings and coatings on vehicles to produce energy from sunlight. The current ST-PV technology is Si-based, but although Si achieves adequate efficiencies, it compromises on aesthetic appeal; its color is intrinsically difficult to tune.
The Electronic Properties of CH3NH3PbI3 Perovskite Surfaces Tuned by Inverted Polarities of Pyridine and Ethylamine
Lead (Pb) based halide perovskites were experimentally observed with enhanced solar cell performance and larger open-circuit voltage after the treatment of the crystal surfaces with pyridine and amine-functionalized molecules. We model the Pb-I2 terminated perovskite surfaces with density-functional theory and find two small organic molecules, pyridine and ethylamine, will interact with the surfaces and tune their electronic band gaps.
High-Performance and Low-Hysteresis Lead Halide Perovskite Solar Cells by Utilizing a Versatile Alcohol-Soluble Bispyridinium Salt as an Efficient Cathode Modifier - Journal of Materials Chemistry A (RSC Publishing)
A novel alcohol-soluble conjugated bispyridinium salt (FPyBr) is developed and used as a cathode modifier to improve the cathode interface of planar heterojunction perovskite solar cells (PHJ PVSCs). The excellent electron-withdrawing ability of bispyridinium rings endows FPyBr with a favorable energy level alignment with phenyl-C60-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) and the cathode (e.g., Al), which leads to an ideal ohmic contact and efficient electron transport and collection.
General Design of Self-Doped Small Molecules as Efficient Hole Extraction Materials for Polymer Solar Cells
The development of high performance hole transport materials (HTMs) without chemical dopant is critical to achieve long-term device durability. The general design of self-doped materials based on phenolamine structure with strong electronic spin concentration is reported for the first time. The phenol-enhanced self-doped mechanism is also proposed.
