Perioperative urinary ketosis and metabolic acidosis in patients fasted for undergoing gynecologic surgery

In this retrospective study including over 1500 patients who underwent gynecologic surgery and routine post-operative urine testing, the authors found that almost 60% of patients had ketouria that was associated with intraoperative metabolic acidosis. The results highlight the need for further study of preoperative carbohydrate intake and development of metabolic asidosis.
