Year-round, 24-hour Shelter for Unhoused Population Opens in Montpelier - The Bridge

MONTPELIER - Early in June, Good Samaritan Haven celebrated the opening of Montpelier's first 24-hour shelter, significantly increasing the number of year-round shelter beds the nonprofit has available to those experiencing homelessness in central Vermont. Named the "Turret House," the Barre Street property has 18 beds and allows Good Samaritan Haven to serve 135 additional people per year, said Julie Bond, executive director of the 40-year-old nonprofit.

MARSHFIELD - The Marshfield Selectboard expressed dissatisfaction and raised concerns at its May 5 meeting about the emergency medical services the town pays for. The central Vermont town receives its paramedic and ambulance services through a contract with the East Montpelier Fire Department, which as of early May, did not have a paramedic on staff.

The Democratic primary in Vermont’s Washington-4 state House district is already picking up steam, with two candidates throwing their names into the mix in recent weeks. State Rep. Conor Casey (D-Montpelier) announced earlier this year that he would not seek reelection, which leaves one of the spots in the two-member district up for grabs. State Rep. Kate McCann, who also represents the district, is seeking a third term.
