Model fit and selection of latent class The model fit/selection statistics to derive appropriate models are shown in table 2. We fit the LCA models with classes ranging from 1 to 4. For each LCA model, the model fit indicators BIC, AIC, cAIC and entropy were calculated. According to the model fit indicators, a three-class model has been selected as the best fit model as it has the lowest BIC and cAIC values.

While life expectancy has increased in recent decades,1 inequalities in longevity and health have endured. In particular, more advantaged people tend to have longer lives and longer healthy lives, differences which persist into old age.2 The lengthy and incremental development of chronic disease means that the major determinants of health and longevity in later life must most likely be sought earlier on in life.

Lifestyle has been regarded as a key pathway through which adverse psychosocial working characteristics can give rise to long-term health problems. The purpose of this study was to estimate the indirect/mediated effect of health behaviors in the longitudinal work characteristics-depression relationship. The analyses were based on the Swedish Longitudinal Occupational Survey of Health, including 3706 working participants with repeat survey measures on four occasions (2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014).
