Esther Adebi/ Staff Artist Every day I keep hearing about these performative men drinking their matcha lattes, with their Labubus, reading feminist literature in public, listening to *checks notes* music that’s for GIRLS ONLY all in service of wooing progressive women. The content and discussion around performative males tends to paint these guys in a generally negative light.

Chopped is an excuse to be mean

Recently, the slang term “chopped” has entered the popular vernacular. It can take on multiple meanings, sometimes being used to mean shoddy, like “scuffed,” but the most common one I hear right now is in a context like “he is so chopped,” which means “he is so ugly.” Despite the efforts of children’s books and other didactic media we consumed as kids, I still hear people criticizing others for being “ugly” fairly often.

These are all true and perfect reasons to rethink how you procure your wardrobe. However, a reason I don’t hear as much is that many of the styles of our day, even when expensive or “technical,” can be significantly less practical than older styles. The other day, I was walking around my neighborhood while it was raining.
