How is social media changing news?
The underdog has a little more power. But the lack of stability and traditional newsrooms (which I've never experienced) is definitely scary.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
Feeling strongly about wanting to share something with the world, wanting to engage, wanting to debate and converse in a national discussion.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Nothing too fancy at the moment -- Microsoft Word and TweetDeck.
What's your favorite social network?
Um. Probably Facebook because it just feels good to have people "like" my stuff :)

Why did you become a journalist?
I met so many incredible journalist through my job at the Nieman Foundation and was inspired by the impact their work had on society.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Interviewing Dan Baum, author of "Gun Guys" I started the book with a pretty strong opinion on the topic, but my perspective changed.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Always write about something you're interested in. Not necessarily what you know, but something that inspires you to explore further.
When's the best time to pitch you?
I'm a freelancer myself, so I am constantly pitching others. Usually Sunday evening works best, I've found.
