Montgomery police have released the name of a man killed in a Saturday night homicide. Michael Miller, 34, of Montgomery, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Cpl. James Dozier, a spokesman for the Montgomery Police Department. At about 6:02 p.m. Sept. 5, police officers and fire medics responded to the 800 block of Taylor Street on a report of a person who had been shot, said Lt. Scott Dunn, a spokesman for the Montgomery Police Department.

Suspect killed in Fort Myers police shooting, FMPD says

An early-morning call on Fort Myers' Katherine Street led to police firing shots and a dead suspect, police said. The Fort Myers Police Department got a call for service at about 5:48 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5 in the 2300 block of Katherine Street, according to a news release from the police department. "The call led to an officer-involved shooting," the release said.

Pedestrian killed Friday night in North Fort Myers car crash

A 59-year-old Fort Myers man died in a car accident Friday, Sept. 4 as he tried crossing U.S. 41 on foot in North Fort Myers, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The accident happened at 8:52 p.m. on southbound U.S. 41. The pedestrian was trying to cross from Judd Road, directly in front of an approaching 2015 Ford Focus driven by a 17-year-old Cape Coral girl. The car struck and critically injured the man, according to FHP.

How is social media changing news?

To keep up with social media, multimedia reporting is now a must for many stories. Newsfeeds have replaced newspapers for many people.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

I use a lot of multimedia tools: Affinity Photo, Lightroom, Audition and Premiere, just to name a few. For text editing, I use BBEDIT.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

In 2020, racial justice protests erupted near my hometown in Orlando. Covering my community during such a trying time was immensely humbling.
