Safety is the new experience - but so is PSD2 and SCA
Retailers have been wrestling for months with the effects of COVID-19 — scattered workforces required to work from home, closed brick-and-mortar stores, dramatic spikes in online sales. And now, as they begin to reopen their physical stores, they are faced with another major disruption — the need to be ready for full enforcement of PSD2 and its strong customer authentication requirements for online sales.
Investing in Sweden - Take Note
It’s July, so naturally, things are starting to heat up here in the northeastern part of the US. Taking a look back at the first half of the year, regulatory organizations were also heating up. I’ve previously written about the need for automation to support global shareholding disclosure obligations due to changes in short position reporting, and to foreign direct investment rules in many jurisdictions but one of the more pressing reasons for automation is sanctions.
The emerging market to digitalise regulation is an USD 1,000 billion opportunity
Regulatory distribution is systemically broken The conventional way governments distribute rules for use by citizens, businesses, other private actors and for the institutions of government is through documents and other forms of content. As highlighted in an earlier paper “The Dangerous Risk of Interactions with Regulation”[i], the use of documents as the authoritative version of regulatory rules is systemically broken when applied in practice.
TRUST - our financial future depends on it!
Is there any aspect of our lives that isn’t wholly dependent upon trust? Our relationships with our partners, family, friends, colleagues, suppliers of our goods and services, medics, law makers, governments, world leaders – all fundamentally rely on trust. With it, those relationships can be successful and productive. Without it, relationships falter and progress stalls (at best). Right now, in 2020, people around the world are deciding who and what to trust.
Eavesdropping in a post-COVID-19 world.
The advent of the telephone nearly 150 years ago, followed by the rapid creation of local, national and then international telephone networks, put an end to the use of the telegraph in trading of financial products fairly swiftly.
PSD2: the time to act is now
There’s nothing quite like an impending deadline to shake you out of summer holiday mode – and PSD2, due to come into force on September 14th, is a significant one. Whilst the FCA recently confirmed an 18-month delay to the Secure Customer Authentication (SCA) aspect of the directive, PSD2 is about so much more than multi-factor authentication.
It's the quiet ones you've got to watch...
Cyber-attacks are hardly new news, but they are an ever-changing threat. The cyber landscape does not stand still for long, and with each new technological innovation, hackers find new vulnerabilities to exploit for their benefit. Even with existing technology, hackers never cease to find new ways or loopholes for intrusion. The threat is coming from everywhere: past, present, and new technologies.
FS organisations require a more sophisticated level of threat protection, here’s why
The financial services industry continues to be a prime target for cyber criminals. The opportunities available to steal payment card data, online banking accounts, compromise ATM machines using ransomware, cryptomining, and other malware, is simply too tempting. And the rate and sophistication of attacks is only getting more difficult to manage and protect against.
Trust is in the eye of the beholder
I always thought "Trust" was an album by Elvis Costello until I started working in the City of London. I quickly learned that much of everything we did in the City and in the global financial community relied on trust. You trust that your bank will look after your money, you trust that your broker will get you the best price for your shares, you trust that the FX broker will get you the best GBP/USD rate and that your bank will pay you the best rate of interest.
