Hunter Barco

The Pirates have recalled left-handed pitcher Hunter Barco and infielder/outfielder Nick Yorke from Triple-A Indianapolis. Right-hander Wilber Dotel and infielder Jack Brannign were optioned to make room on the active roster. This will be the fourth stint for Barco with the Pirates this season. In six appearances out of the bullpen, the 25-year-old is 0-1 with a 7.36 ERA. He’s been charged with 12 earned runs on 19 hits with 12 walks and 10 strikeouts in 14.2 innings.

The Pirates have recalled right-handed pitcher Antwone Kelly from Triple-A Indianapolis and optioned left-hander Hunter Barco ahead of Friday’s game against the Reds in Cincinnati. This will be Kelly’s third stint with the Pirates this season. In two appearances out of the bullpen with Pittsburgh, the 22-year-old has allowed five runs on six hits with two walks and a strikeout in 4.1 innings. Kelly has made 19 appearances/13 starts with Indianapolis this season and is 5-5 with a 4.29 ERA.

The Pirates flirted with danger for much of the game, and it finally came back to bite them in the ninth inning of a 3-2 walk-off loss to the Reds at Great American Ballpark on Thursday night. Bottom 3rd, 2-0 CIN: The Reds (51-57) plated a pair of runs off Hunter Barco. Elly De La Cruz broke the scoreless tie with an RBI single and scored on a Sal Stewart base hit. Top 5th, 2-1 CIN: The Pirates (55-55) got a run back off Rhett Lowder in the fifth.
