Nvidia Expands Server Platform Family with New Designs
Nvidia’s updated server platform is intended as a “building block,” in the reference design sense, to support AI training and inference along with HPC workloads such as simulations. The GPU vendor introduced its latest server platform dubbed HGX-2 on Wednesday (May 30) during a company roadshow in Taipei, Taiwan. Nvidia said the system can be throttled up or down to support precision HPC calculations from 32-bits for single-precision floating point format, or FP32, up to double-precision FP64.
Scientists Use Photonic Chip to Make Virtual Movies of Molecular Motion
INDIANAPOLIS, May 30, 2018 — Scientists from IUPUI, MIT, Nokia Bell Labs, NTT and the University of Bristol in England, which led the study, have shown how an optical chip can simulate the motion of atoms within molecules at the quantum level. The study is published in the May 31 issue of the journal Nature. The work described in the new study could lead to new methods of molecular modeling, which may help in the creation of new chemicals for use as pharmaceuticals.
