South Simcoe Police made two impaired driving arrests in Innisfil on Friday — including one driver caught travelling more than twice the speed limit. Police say a 56-year-old man from Waubaushene was stopped on Sideroad 20 near Killarney Beach Public School around 8:45 in the morning. He was arrested and charged with two counts of impaired driving, along with having an open container of liquor and driving with an unvalidated permit.

Officers were patrolling near Brentwood Road shortly after one Friday morning when they approached a stopped vehicle. Police say they developed grounds to continue their investigation, leading to the arrest of two passengers. Officers seized suspected cocaine and fentanyl, along with a pill bottle containing unknown pills.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are urging people to make good decisions this Labour Day weekend, especially if you are heading out onto the water or hitting the trails. So far this year, 18 people have died in marine incidents investigated by the OPP. Most were not wearing a life jacket, according to police. Another 17 people have died in ATV and off-road fatalities. OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says people can end up paying with their lives because of what are often very preventable situations.
