Interview

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes. I learned on my mother's manual and electric typewriters as a child. She held out on learning to use a computer for decades.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Email.

What's your favorite social network?

Facebook. It has taken me years to warm up to Twitter, but I am beginning to like it.

Why did you become a journalist?

I just seemed to have a knack for describing my observations, and people kept asking me to write for them.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

No. My high school's administration did not want us distracted with a newspaper. So we created a samizdat literary arts broadsheet.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

A thirty page personal essay describing every organization the author believed to be persecuting them.

What's your favorite drink?

Coffee in all its varied methods of preparation.
