WHAT IS THE CURRENT KNOWLEDGE ON THE TOPIC? Despite the fact that obesity is a risk factor for the onset and recurrence of venous thromboembolism (VTE), and even though a large proportion of obese patients have VTE and thus need anticoagulation therapy, studies which have investigated rivaroxaban pharmacokinetics (PK) in obese subjects are limited. The lack of definitive evidence regarding rivaroxaban PK among the obese population is clearly reflected in clinical guidelines.
