European recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) prices remain under significant upward pressure largely due to the high prices and reduced availability of virgin PET caused by the Iran war. Prices for post-consumer bottle bales, colourless and mixed coloured flake and food-grade pellet (FGP) all saw increases in the first half of April, with upwards pressure persisting for some sectors as the month progresses.

INSIGHT: EU confirms rPET imports only count to SUPD 25% target from 21 November 2027

The long-awaited final version of the Single Use Plastics Directive (SUPD) Implementing Decision text has been published and confirms that recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) imports from outside the EU will only count towards the 25% target from 21 November 2027. The Implementing Decision also sets out the Commission's mass-balance approach under the SUPD implementing act voted through on 6 February.
