INTRODUCTION Sample return missions from asteroids and comets provide a valuable opportunity to access materials from bodies that preserve records of physicochemical conditions and nebular and planetary processes in the protoplanetary disk (e.g., Ota et al., 2023; Yamaguchi et al., 2023). To access and analyze such materials, the Hayabusa2 mission successfully returned approximately 5.4 g of material from the Cb-type asteroid (162173) Ryugu (Yada et al., 2022).

Abstract The Hayabusa2 spacecraft explored asteroid Ryugu and brought its surface materials to Earth. Ryugu samples resemble Ivuna-type (CI) chondrites—the most chemically primitive meteorites—and contain secondary phyllosilicates and carbonates, which are indicative of aqueous alteration.
