Ilhak Tantray’s Biography
I am Ilhak Tantray, a freelance journalist based in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, with 4-5 years of writing experience. My knowledge and skills in journalism center on environmental reporting, alongside coverage of climate, social issues, human rights, politics, and culture, with focus on underreported communities.
Work has appeared in 101 reporters, Planet Forward, TwoCircles, Article 14, The Quint, Maktoob Media, India Development Review, Beenest.in, and Kashmir Life. Collaborations include local and international organizations.
Received two environment-related fellowships: one with 101 Reporters in collaboration with earth journalism network and one with IISER Pune University. Completed training through these programs on environmental journalism practices.
Reporting experiences include climate stories that examine impacts on livelihoods, such as effects on agriculture, water resources, and community displacement in Jammu and Kashmir. Responsibilities involved field research, interviews with affected residents, data analysis from local meteorological records, and coordination with NGOs for verification.
