Or if it will return at all. One new leak claims that Apple has dropped plans to make a larger iMac. Another says development goes on, but the all-in-one desktop won‘t be out for a long time. Whither the 27-inch iMac?
Apple plans even better 'Studio Display Pro' with mini-LED and ProMotion

iMac Pro could make a comeback in 2022 with Apple's newest M1 chips
News Top stories iMac Pro Photo: Apple The high-end iMac Pro is expected to return next year with Apple’s newest M1 Pro and M1 Max chipsets. One tipster also claims the powerful all-in-one will feature a 27-inch mini-LED display — and possibly even Face ID. The machine won’t be cheap, with prices expected to start “at or over” $2,000. But that would make it considerably more affordable than the last iMac Pro. iMac Pro not dead yet?
Revive or restore an Intel-based Mac with Apple Configurator 2
In very rare circumstances, such as a power failure during a macOS update or upgrade, a Mac may become unresponsive and so the firmware must be revived or restored. Important: First try reviving the computer. If that fails or if you can’t start the Mac from the startup volume, recoveryOS, or Internet Recovery, you must restore the firmware and erase the internal flash storage. What does a revive do to your Mac? A revive updates the firmware on the Apple T2 Security Chip.
Can you have too many monitors? [Setups]
News Top stories This setup has four monitors. How about seven, though? Photo: dm-86@Reddit How many large displays is “overdoing it” in a computer setup? Redditor dm-86 suggested they’d gone too far with four, but that only ties one of our other favorites. Some commenters joked around that they saw plenty of space for more in the imposing setup, or bank of screens, if you will. This post contains affiliate links. News Top stories Farewell ... and don't let the door bang you on the bezel on your way out. Cover: Leander Kahney/Cult of Mac The iMac Pro was sleek and fast and capable and ultimately … uninspired. That’s Cult of Mac writer Luke Dormehl’s take on Apple’s recently expired pro all-in-one. He serves up a compelling “Dear John” letter to a weird period in Mac history. And it doubles as a lovingly hopeful look at what the future holds.

Mac shipments fall in 2019 despite impressive growth for PCs
News The 16-inch MacBook Pro couldn't save falling Mac shipments. Photo: Apple A big MacBook Pro refresh and a long-awaited Mac Pro overhaul couldn’t prevent Apple computer shipments from suffering another decline in 2019, according to new data. Both IDC and Gartner say Mac shipments fell during the final quarter of 2019, and for 2019 as a whole. That’s despite decent growth for PCs, which enjoyed the highest single-quarter shipment volume in four years during Q4.
Early 2019 Mac Pro benchmarks won’t blow you away
News Top stories You might be better off with iMac Pro instead. Photo: Apple Early benchmarks for the 2019 Mac Pro have now started surfacing online — and they might be a disappointment for some. Pro Display XDR works with unsupported Macs … with a catch
News Top stories You don't need a Mac Pro to enjoy Pro Display XDR. Photo: Apple Only a handful of the latest Macs are fully compatible with Apple’s stunning new Pro Display XDR. But it turns out that other machines — such as the $5,000 iMac Pro — will work, too. Just don’t expect a full 6K resolution. When the Pro Display XDR went on sale this week, Apple published a new support document that outlines which of its machines can drive a full 6K (6016 x 3384) resolution. And there aren’t many.
You can't put 256GB RAM in an iMac Pro after buying it
News Top stories iMac Pro can't be maxed-out later. Photo: Apple If you really need 256GB of RAM inside your iMac Pro, you’d better make sure you buy it that way from Apple. It seems it is impossible for owners to upgrade to this configuration after purchasing their machines — even if they have the latest model. Apple introduced the 256GB of RAM option to the iMac Pro last week. It’s a costly configuration, with the RAM alone priced at $5,200 on top of the iMac Pro’s base price of $4,999.

Why this week’s Apple PR blitz is brilliant [Opinion]
News Top stories Updated iMacs, AirPods, and iPads have all debuted this week. What’s next? Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac Apple isn’t following its usual strategy for product launches. Rather than holding a press event during which a collection of devices get shown off, it’s spread the news out across multiple days. This has brought plenty of attention to products that might otherwise have been lost in the furor around bigger announcements, and is also creating excitement about what’s coming next.
iMac Pro now available with Vega 64X graphics and 256GB RAM
News Top stories It's going to cost you. Photo: Apple The pricey iMac Pro didn’t quite get a refresh like the standard iMac today, but Apple has added some new upgrade options. Those with a need for speed can now equip the all-in-one with AMD Radeon Pro Vega 64X graphics and up to 256GB of RAM for the first time. But be prepared to break the bank (or maybe rob a bank?) for the most impressive model. The iMac Pro is Apple’s beefiest Mac.

Unlock the dual audio outputs in new Macs
Up until last year, if you plugged a pair of headphones into your Mac, the speakers were effectively disconnected. There was no way to send simultaneous audio stream to both headphones and speakers. Now, with modern T2-equipped Macs, you can double up on audio. For instance, you could have alerts sound through the built-in speakers, with music routed through the headphone jack, so you don’t get notifications interrupting your banging tunes.

Smartphones are killing laptops and desktops, but tablet sales rise
The number of Americans who own an iPad or other tablet computer increased marginally in the past two years. However, ownership of a laptop/desktop has dropped significantly in the same period. Smartphone ownership stayed at the high rate it’s held since 2016. And that’s what’s really cutting into sales of traditional computers. These figures come from The Pew Research Center, who surveyed Americans about their online habits and gadget ownership.
Apple leak contains no sign of new Macs or iPad Pros
Big Apple leak contains no sign of new Macs or iPad Pros Not today! Photo: Álvaro Pabesio If you were hoping to see new Macs and iPad Pros during today’s Apple keynote, it looks like you could be sorely disappointed. A huge Apple website leak that has confirmed the names of its next-generation iPhones contains no mention of new computers or tablets. It looks like we’ll have to wait a little longer for a Mac mini Pro, a cheaper MacBook, and iPads with Face ID. This story is developing.
Apple T2 chip might crash iMac Pro, MacBook Pro
Some iMac Pro units are subject to occasional hard crashes. The reasons are hard to pin down, but fingers are starting to point at the Apple T2 chip inside this computer. There’s also one in the 2018 MacBook Pro, and this new device is seemingly prone to the same problem. The Apple Support Communities are apparently the place to go to try to troubleshoot the crashes. One still-active thread has been going on since mid-January.

Apple is back with a new back to school promotion that hooks students up with free or discounted pair of Beats headphones. The 2018 promo is pretty similar to last year’s deal. Only instead of only being available in North America initially, this year Apple launched it simultaneously in the US, Mexico, Canada, EU and Asian countries.
The next Mac Pro won't arrive until 2019
Professional Mac users holding out for the next Mac Pro are going to have to wait at least another year. After revealing in 2017 that it was completely redesigning the Mac Pro, some fans held out hope that the new Mac Pro would come out by 2018. That’s not going to happen though. In a series of interviews, Apple executives revealed that the new Mac Pro will be a 2019 product. Apple rarely comments about upcoming products, but it’s taken a different tune with its upcoming Mac Pro upgrade.
Apple is finally selling a space gray keyboard and mouse
Mac fans that love the look of the iMac Pro, but don’t want to plop down four grand on a new iMac can finally buy the accessories separately. The Space Grey keyboard costs $149. That’s $20 more than the normal silver keyboard, but way better than paying $1500 for one like some people did on eBay when the iMac Pro first came out. Buying a space gray Magic Mouse will set you back $99 while the normal version is just $79.
6 awesome videos show off iMac Pro's impressive power

Apple has launched new A-series chips every year since the unveiling of the original iPad. Once you’ve dropped almost $14k on a new iMac Pro, what’s another $50 to add some extra ports to the front of it? Satechi’s Aluminum Type-C Clamp Hub Pro might be one of the most awkwardly-named gadget this year, but it may also prove to be one of the most useful.
