WPIAL boys basketball postseason rewind: Only Upper St. Clair completes repeat bid
Five WPIAL boys basketball champions from a year ago qualified for the district postseason this season, although three of them had moved up to higher classifications. Class 2A 2024 winner Aliquippa was now in 3A, 3A winner Deer Lakes bumped up to 4A and Class A two-time champ Imani Christian took the elevator up five classes to 6A. However, when the last golden basketball trophy was handed out, only Upper St. Clair was wearing the championship drip again.

Boys basketball bracketology: WPIAL committee faces several tough calls
Putting together a bracket - in any sport - is difficult. In high school sports, without advanced metrics and often lacking head-to-head matchups, it's near impossible. But such is the task for the WPIAL basketball committee, which will announce the brackets for the playoffs on Monday at 2 p.m. It's a different process than for football, when the committee has to select a number of at-large teams. For basketball, the teams are set, with 85 of the WPIAL's 133 teams qualifying.
WPIAL 2022 boys basketball playoff predictions
Figuring out the No. 1 seeds for the WPIAL boys basketball playoffs is pretty easy in most of the six classifications. One of the reasons is that the league has four undefeated teams in four different classifications. But when the WPIAL basketball committee meets Monday and makes playoff pairings and seedings, deciding on some of the other top seeds will be much more difficult. Teams with good records and similar resumes will surely make the WPIAL debate seeds 2 through 4 in some classes.
