President Trump Announces Trade Actions Targeting Chinese Tech and Intellectual Property Policies
In August 2017, US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer initiated an investigation to determine whether the acts, policies, and practices of the Chinese Government related to technology transfer, intellectual property and innovation are unreasonable or discriminatory and either burden or restrict US commerce under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, as amended (19 U.S.C. § 2411).
Article 9 To Perfect A Security Interest In Bitcoin
In my previous article, I discussed the challenges of using Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code ("UCC") to create and perfect a security interest in virtual currency like Bitcoin, Ethereum, or Litecoin. (I use “bitcoin” as a generic term for all virtual currencies.) Because bitcoin is likely a general intangible under Article 9, lenders cannot be certain that bitcoin is not encumbered with other security interests before being pledged by the holder.

State Bars Not Immune To Antitrust Allegations
“The Florida Bar basically said: ‘This is our monopoly. TIKD is violating it, and any lawyer that participates with TIKD is putting their license at risk.’ Now you have the fox guarding the henhouse, and the Florida Bar does not have the authority to do that,” Pete Kennedy, attorney for TIKD in the ongoing antitrust suit against the Florida Bar that we reported on in December, recently told us in an exclusive IMS interview.
FTC Comment on CFPB on Civil Investigative Demands
On March 26, 2018, the staff of the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Consumer Protection (“BCP”) filed a comment in response to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s Request for Information on the procedures for issuing Civil Investigative Demands. CaseCrunch Program
Have you heard of CaseCrunch, the litigation predictor program that beat human lawyers with a margin of almost 25%? We don’t believe computers will soon, or ever should, replace lawyers entirely. CA Dam Inspections
A year after the spillway collapse at the Oroville Dam, leading to evacuations of almost 200,000 residents and a beat-the-clock patching job to avoid a break in the tallest dam in the United States, new legislation to strengthen inspections of dams awaits approval of California Gov. Who on Earth did Cupid shoot? Cinderella, that’s who.
