Norsk hjerteforskning i verdensklasse: 50 år siden Tromsø-undersøkelsen startet

Kronikk Det ble starten på Tromsø-undersøkelsen, som de påfølgende 50 år ga opphav til mer enn 1000 vitenskapelige artikler og nesten 200 doktoravhandlinger, mange publisert i verdens mest anerkjente vitenskapelige tidsskrifter. Bakgrunnen var den raske økningen av hjerte- og karsykdommer i Norge årene etter 2. verdenskrig. Ganske uventet viste det seg at de nordlige og mer landlige områdene hadde høyest dødelighet av hjerteinfarkt, enda høyere enn Oslo.
