The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested four suspects allegedly involved in the brutal killing of a 21-year-old man. It was gathered that Emmanuel Effiong was lynched by a mob after being accused of stealing chickens and eggs from a poultry farm in Mbak 4 community, Uyo Local Government Area. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, Effiong was beaten with sticks and machetes until he died, after which his body was secretly buried in a shallow grave.

The Akwa Ibom State High Court sitting in Uyo has sentenced a motorcyclist, Michael Effiong Japhet, to imprisonment for life for raping a nursing mother. Justice Archibong Archibong found the suspect guilty of rape and stealing punishable under the Criminal Code Laws of Akwa Ibom State, 2000. It was gathered that Japhet, a commercial motorcycle operator, forced himself on the victim after threatening her with a knife on February 23, 2015.
