While we must continue the important, effective restrictions and habits that are decreasing transmission of and death from the SARS-CoV-2 virus (cause of the covid-19 pandemic), diseases that have a greater negative health and economic impact annually continue. The 2019-2020 influenza season in Arkansas had 118 flu-related deaths, three of which were children. In 2018 there were 208 million cases of malaria with 405,000 deaths, an improvement from 435,000 deaths in 2017 and 607,000 in 2010.
