IOE Library

Amongst the hundreds of academic books that reach the Newsam Library every month, a colourful cover caught my eye, with two people crossing an orange desert under a deep-blue sky lit by a dazzling moon. This painting is in fact taken from the children’s book The colour of home, the story of a child from war-torn Somalia who finds refuge in Britain but is haunted by horrendous images.

It is not often that we recommend websites but we have decided to feature an exceptional one,  Lovemybooks, as it has a link with Early Years and KS1. The site’s patrons are also some of the best-known children’s authors including Michael Rosen, David Almond, SF Said, Mini Grey and Myra Barrs.

As you can see from the photos, the event was a great success!   In his inspiring and heartfelt opening, S. F. Said emphasised the importance of reading for pleasure and the importance of teachers and librarians, “Teachers and librarians have never mattered more.
