Luigi Mangione has admitted to shooting a healthcare executive in New York. The 28-year-old told a federal court he shot and killed Brian Thompson , the chief executive of UnitedHealthcare, in Manhattan in Dec 2024. At a hearing on Friday, Mangione said: “On the morning of Dec 4, 2024, I shot Mr Thompson, and he died.” “I understood that my actions would place him in fear of death or bodily injury,” he continued.

Luigi Mangione has admitted killing Brian Thompson, the UnitedHealthcare chief executive, in a 2024 shooting. At a court hearing on Friday, Mangione said: “I shot Mr Thompson and he died. I knew what I was doing was illegal.” Moments earlier, the 28-year-old had agreed that he would enter a guilty plea to charges of stalking resulting in death , averting a federal trial. He had previously faced federal murder and firearms charges as well, but those counts were dropped in January.
