1 Introduction The extensive literature throughout history highlights the importance of children's natural interest in the science surrounding them and the family's central role in nurturing it (Dewey 1913; Piaget 1952; Vygotsky 1978). Interest is crucial for learning processes and outcomes; the more interested learners are, the more they learn (Ainley and Ainley 2011; Blankenburg, Höffler, and Parchmann 2016).
