Disinfection of hospital sink drains enriches pseudomonadota and efflux pump-mediated antibiotic resistance in reestablished biofilms
Abstract Antimicrobial resistant pathogens and associated infections represent major public health threats affecting healthcare facilities, with sink drain biofilms serving as reservoirs for many of these bacteria. Despite attempts at sink drain biofilm disinfection and removal, drain biofilms inevitably regrow, and disinfection may shape the returning microbial communities and their resistance profiles.

The Susceptibility of Airborne SARS-CoV-2 to Far-UVC Irradiation
Abstract Far-UVC irradiation has emerged as a breakthrough disinfection technology for the treatment of indoor air. Far-UVC wavelengths (222 nm) from filtered krypton-chloride excimer lamps are effective at inactivating airborne viruses and safe for human exposure, thus enabling the continuous treatment of bulk air in occupied settings. This study quantifies the susceptibility of airborne SARS-CoV-2, aerosolized in human saliva, to far-UVC radiation.

Structure vs. chemistry: Alternate mechanisms for controlling leaf microbiomes
Leaf surface chemical and physical properties We tested the swabs of the adaxial and abaxial leaf surfaces in both plants for ROS. Our results showed significantly elevated levels of ROS on the abaxial leaf surface of R. excelsa across all locations (Fig 5, S18 Fig and S4–S6 Tables). Similar ROS levels, however, were absent in both adaxial and abaxial surface of C. fruticosa across all locations. Fig 5. Reactive oxygen species assay of adaxial and abaxial leaf surfaces.
Exploring temporal patterns of bacterial and fungal DNA accumulation on a ventilation system filter for a Singapore university library
The DNA concentrations from the blank samples were all below the detection limit of the Qubit and no amplification was detected in the qPCR run with 35 thermal cycles, suggesting that there was no significant contribution of biomass from the maintenance company personnel during filter replacement, from the researchers during sampling and analysis of the filter pieces, or from the AHU filter materials themselves.
