Mild temperatures have presented challenges for the Pond Hockey Festival on the Rock in recent years. Two years ago, warm weather cancelled the annual charity tournament on Sudbury’s Ramsey Lake and last year, organizers opted to switch to boot hockey on land after the weather threatened to not cooperate again. Wednesday, organizers said conditions are finally ideal for this year’s event,  with 16 inches of ice depth as opposed to the measly 6 inches they had last year.

A familiar name to people in Sudbury headlined the seventh day of the Sudbury by-election bribery trial. Former Sudbury Mayor Marianne Matichuk expressed interest in running for the Ontario Liberals during the 2015 by-election, but she added there was a lot of dysfunction in the riding association and she didn't like the 'disrespectful tactics' going on. Matichuk, who was mayor from 2010 to 2014 and did not see re-election, said she wanted to avoid controversy.
