1 INTRODUCTION Seminal plasma (SP) is a protein-rich fluid consisting mainly of secretions from male accessory sex glands.1 It plays a crucial role in several physiological reproductive events, most notably modulating both sperm function and the immune environment of the female genital tract for successful embryo development.1 It is likely that SP proteins are essential for these relevant SP functions.

The procedures used to collect semen samples from boars were validated by the Bioethics Committee of the University of Murcia (research codes: CBE 367/2020 and CBE: 538/2023) in accordance with the international guidelines for the protection of animals used for scientific purposes (Directive 2010/63/EU). The semen donor boars belonged to the company AIM Ibérica (Topigs Norsvin España, Madrid, Spain) and were housed in an artificial insemination (AI) center located in Calasparra (Murcia, Spain).
