I Walked Past Every Single Red Flag Waving — And Married Him Anyway
I’m sitting on our deck in the Hamptons an hour after everyone has left our wedding, realizing that my marriage needs to end. There have been too many red flags and it’s been too hard for too long. I’m drained. I’m sad. I’m lonely. My husband is just on the other side of the screen door, sleeping on the sofa we bought together at Ikea right after we bought the house. On his chest, our eleven-month-old daughter drools in her half-sleep.
Exploring ADP-ribosylation Forms Using Mass Spectrometry-Based Proteomics Methods
ADP-ribosylation is a post-translational modification (PTM) that involves the addition of one or more units of adenosine diphosphate (ADP)-ribose to a target protein, often occurring during the cellular stress response to a chemical toxin or viral infection. There are two main layers that facilitate ADP-ribosylation’s role in coordinating cellular processes. First, ADP-ribosylation can be added to 9 different amino acids of very different chemical properties.

Guestwords: Passing Down Lyme Disease
May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month. Perhaps this is why the country singer Brad Paisley’s delightful tune “Ticks” played over my car radio the other day. The song tracks the thoughts of a man staring at a beautiful woman at a bar. He wonders what it would be like to walk her through a field of wildflowers before checking her body for ticks. I wonder what would happen to their resulting baby should he miss one.

Why The Gibler Team is a three-point score
Walt Gibler knows what it takes to win. After graduating college and playing professional basketball throughout Germany, the Cincinnati native returned home because it offered a winning combination. What happens when coronavirus and Lyme disease intersect? It's a scary time for patients
In mid-March, shortly after coronavirus quarantine rules went into effect in New York, sportscaster and former professional tennis player Patrick McEnroe went out for a run in a local park. An itch on his upper-arm a day later revealed an embedded tick, which he promptly removed. After urging from his wife, he sent the tick to a lab to test if it was infected with Lyme.

Transgender child's mom: love your kids, period
Four years ago on a summer afternoon in late July, I was making cucumber soup in my kitchen when a wisp of light blue flashed across my yard. I dropped my peeler and saw through the window our four-year-old son wandering around the garden dressed like Cinderella.I recognized the dress immediately. It had been his older sister's -- cast away, no doubt, in a donation bag that was never donated.I didn't race outside, tear the dress off and proffer admonishments.
The World Sent Me Hate Mail About My Transgender Kid -- & Here's Why I Welcome It
What happened, I always wonder, when I see a car crushed like an accordion on the side of the highway, shattered glass on the asphalt, an ambulance pulling away, sirens blaring. Could something have been done to rescue the victims from such an awful fate?

The CMS Level-1 Calorimeter Trigger for LHC Run II
Results from the completed Phase 1 Upgrade of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) Level-1 Calorimeter Trigger are presented. The upgrade was completed in two stages, with the first running in 2015 for proton and Heavy Ion collisions and the final stage for 2016 data taking. The Level-1 trigger has been fully commissioned and has been used by CMS to collect over 43 fb-1 of data since the start of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) Run II.
CERN Document Server
The CMS Level-1 calorimeter trigger is being upgraded in two stages to maintain performance as the LHC increases pile-up and instantaneous luminosity in its second run. In the first stage, improved algorithms including event-by-event pile-up corrections are used. New algorithms for heavy ion running have also been developed. In the second stage, higher granularity inputs and a time-multiplexed approach allow for improved position and energy resolution.
