Donate Surfrider Foundation views beach access as a universal right, and Surfrider’s policy on beach accessstates key principles we view as important for ensuring that healthy and clean coasts and a vibrant ocean are accessible and beneficial for all people. A growing threat we've seen to beach access is rising costs for public parking and reductions in public parking spaces.

At the start of any beach trip, there is nothing quite like stepping into the sand and glimpsing the waves. An ocean of possibilities lies ahead of you: surfing, beachcombing, swimming, picnicking, fishing, relaxing, and the list goes on. But beach lovers are seeing a troubling trend that is making it harder to even get to that first step – reductions in public parking availability and increasing fees.

On February 24th, 2025, the Falmouth Town Council passed an ordinance regulating the use of pesticides and fertilizers. This milestone represents years of dedicated research, public outreach, and advocacy led by the Falmouth Conservation Commission to safeguard the health and welfare of residents while protecting the town’s environment, waterways, and natural resources.
