Welcome to the RIBA Regional Awards 2024. Over the past several weeks we have been showcasing the projects that have made it through the shortlisting stage and won a RIBA Regional Award. This year, there are 111 winners across the 13 RIBA nations and regions, with London split into five further areas.

After years of frustrated efforts, LDA has transformed access and the experience of the green leisure space, while three new Stallan Brand-designed pavilions recall the historic trams Union Terrace Gardens is the main park in the centre of Aberdeen. It is located between Aberdeen Art Gallery, His Majesty’s Theatre and the Central Library at the northern end, and the city’s primary shopping avenue Union Street skims along the south side.

What is an emotionalist building? This is a question that has been playing around in director of Spheron Architects Tszwai So’s mind for some time. It became part of discussions he had with an international group of friends over Zoom calls during Covid lockdowns. People joined from Canada, Hong Kong, South Korea, the UK and beyond, becoming a kind of creative collective. What emotionalist architecture might be, however, remained a theory.
