What was your first job as a journalist?

Freelance writer.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes. ut this was a long time ago in middle school.

How is social media changing news?

I think it's changing the way we consume news. Journalists must adapt to this or risk being left behind.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

To tell the truth.

Why did you become a journalist?

I did not set out to become a journalist, not even a Vatican journalist. But I've always had an interest in writing about topics of interest.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

No.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

"What Catholics Can Learn About Leisure From a Pope on Vacation" for the National Catholic Register.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Have a healthy detachment from your work. Your work is not you.

In the morning.

To write about what Catholics can learn from a Pope on vacation.

What's your favorite drink?

Water.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Sleeping.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

The Pillar.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That there is no delicate diplomacy at play between the Vatican and other sovereign nations.
