Four suspects are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on charges including dealing in drugs, malicious damage to property and attack on police officers. Free State police spokesperson Thandi Mbambo says members of the Provincial Anti-Gang Unit executed a search warrant at a residence in Joe Slovo, Heidedal. Mbambo says as the tactical team attempted to gain entry into the house, a 45-year-old homeowner allegedly unleashed his vicious pit bull dogs on two police officials.

Free State MEC for Community Safety, Roads and Transport, Jabu Mbalula has expressed sadness about the deaths of four people including a 47-year-old police officer. The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday morning in Hennenman, where the police officer allegedly went looking for his girlfriend at a family gathering. It is reported that when he could not find her the officer became angry, and allegedly shot five people, killing three and later shot and killed himself.

Free State Education Department has condemned the alleged assault of a learner by a teacher at one of its special school in QwaQwa. Department spokesperson, Howard Ndaba says the alleged brutal assault of a 18-year-old girl happened at Thiboloha school for the deaf and blind. Ndaba says two house parents and a teacher witnessed the alleged assault. He says the matter was formally referred for investigation to the labour relations division.
