Continued population recovery and high annual survival rates of White-rumped Vultures in Nepal

Starting in the mid-1990s, White-rumped Gyps bengalensis, Indian Gyps indicus and Slender-billed Vultures Gyps tenuirostris, endemic to South and South-east Asia, underwent catastrophic population declines. In India, all three species declined by more than 97%, with White-rumped Vulture declining by 99.9% between 1992 and 2007 (Prakash et al. 2007). In Nepal, this species declined by 91% over the same period (Chaudhary et al. 2012).
