1 Introduction Prosthesis-patient mismatch (PPM) is defined as the implantation of a prosthetic valve with an effective orifice area that is physiologically too small to sufficiently supply the patient's cardiac requirements [1]. PPM has been correlated with adverse clinical outcomes, including increased mortality [2].

1 Introduction In the last 15 years, transcatheter aortic valve replacement has become the treatment of choice for many patients with severe symptomatic aortic stenosis (AS) [1]. TAVR provides benefits in terms of survival and quality of life throughout the entire spectrum of surgical risk [2-4]. This expansion of TAVR-eligible populations has brought forth the need for personalized valve selection based on the patients' baseline and anatomical characteristics [5].

Background Limited data are available on the long-term effects of contemporary drug-eluting stents versus contemporary bare-metal stents on rates of death, myocardial infarction, repeat revascularization, and stent thrombosis and on quality of life. Methods We randomly assigned 9013 patients who had stable or unstable coronary artery disease to undergo percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with the implantation of either contemporary drug-eluting stents or bare-metal stents.
