Uncovering of archaeological evidence related to ancient religion and cultic practice has been a top priority for archaeological excavations. For excavations in the Levant this has been on account of the textual evidence recorded in the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament, which provides details related to Israelite, Judahite, and presumably Canaanite cult and practice.
