UW Health dermatologist says skip tanning beds, be sun safe this summer

(WIFR) - With temperatures rising and more people spending time outdoors, UW Health experts urge people to put their health above getting a “summertime glow.” Experts say the scientific data is clear: tanning beds cause skin cancer. “The risk for tanning beds is so significant in terms of melanoma,” said Dr. Lisa Arkin, a UW Health dermatologist. Melanoma is the most dangerous type of skin cancer. A study published in 2025 found using tanning beds triples a person’s melanoma risk.

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - A new pastry and coffee house is brewing something special at 323 West Jefferson Street. Amazin Glazin Pastry and Coffee House officially opened its doors Friday with a ribbon cutting ceremony, welcoming the community with free pastries for the first 25 guests and a warm atmosphere. Co-owner Patricia Woody, who runs the shop alongside her husband Jeremy, said she fell in love with the building the moment she saw it.

Charest says small businesses are not necessarily trying to do more this year, they’re trying to do things better.
