Maine teachers can now take up to 12 weeks of paid family leave
Maine teachers can now take up to 12 weeks of paid leave for family or medical reasons under a new statewide program that began paying benefits this year. Maine’s Paid Family and Medical Leave program started paying benefits on May 1, providing eligible workers a portion of their wages during medical leave, parental leave, family care leave, military family leave, or safe leave, according to the Maine Department of Labor.
Reentrant Landau levels in a Dirac topological insulator
Abstract Pentatellurides have emerged as an ideal platform for exploring topological phase transitions and their electronic properties. Positioned at the boundary between a strong and weak topological insulator phase, their low carrier density and linear dispersion enable a three-dimensional Dirac Hamiltonian description. A complete understanding of these materials remains elusive due to unexplained sample variability.
Measurement of ion acceleration and diffusion in a laser-driven magnetized plasma - Nature Communications
|
Abstract Here we present results from an experiment performed at the GSI Helmholtz Center for Heavy Ion Research. A mono-energetic beam of chromium ions with initial energies of ~ 450 MeV was fired through a magnetized interaction region formed by the collision of two counter-propagating laser-ablated plasma jets. While laser interferometry revealed the absence of strong fluid-scale turbulence, acceleration and diffusion of the beam ions was driven by wave-particle interactions.

Using the Theoretical Domains Framework to identify strategies to support the implementation of the guidelines for the physiotherapy management of people with spinal cord injury: a qualitative study | Spinal Cord Series and Cases
Abstract Qualitative design. The aim of the study was to (i) determine the perspectives of therapists and people with spinal cord injury (SCI) on our recently developed Australian and New Zealand Clinical Practice Guidelines for the physiotherapy management of people with SCI, and (ii) understand the barriers and facilitators to the rollout of the Guidelines and identify implementation strategies to support their uptake. Early and intensive Motor Training for people with spinal cord injuries (the SCI-MT Trial): description of the intervention - Spinal Cord
Abstract Study design Descriptive. Objectives The primary objective is to describe the intervention that will be provided in a large multi-centre randomised controlled trial titled: Early and Intensive Motor Training for people with Spinal Cord Injuries (the SCI-MT Trial). The secondary objective is to describe the strategies that will be used to operationalise and standardise the Motor Training provided to participants while keeping the intervention person-centred.
Introduction: Infertility affects approximately 1 in 7 heterosexual couples in the UK, with 30% of cases attributed solely to male factor infertility. Surgical Sperm Retrieval (SSR) is a treatment method used to assist with conception for couples with azoospermic men. This audit aimed to retrospectively analyse the profile of male factor infertility patients undergoing SSR in a tertiary care centre over one year period.
Using Cameras To Understand What Is Happening While Drilling
Can a camera do a better job than humans at creating a minute-by-minute record of drilling activity? Or evaluate damaged drill bits better? Based on two papers at the SPE/IADC International Drilling Conference and Exhibition, the answer might soon be yes. Schlumberger researchers showed that video from a camera on the drill floor and on the drilling cuttings shaker kept an accurate record of what the rig was doing at the time, also known as the rig state (SPE 204086).

FiguresChinese is one of the largest visible minority groups in Canada, with a substantial portion being recent immigrants. In 2004, our group conducted a telephone survey among 1000 ethnic Chinese on the knowledge of stroke and heart disease. In that study, we demonstrated substantial lack of knowledge of cardiovascular diseases in this cohort.
A 12-week regimen with interdigitating FOLFOX/bevacizumab and pelvic chemoradiation for synchronous primary and metastatic rectal cancer. The CHROME B trial
Background: Chemotherapy used during chemoradiation for advanced rectal cancer is adequate for radiosensitisation but suboptimal for systemic control. The aim of this study was to assess tolerability and local/systemic control of a new regimen interdigitating intensive chemotherapy, bevacizumab (Bev) and radical radiotherapy. Methods: This was a single arm prospective trial for patients presenting with untreated synchronous symptomatic primary and metastatic rectal cancer.
