Viewing Native American Cervical Cancer Disparities through the Lens of the Vaginal Microbiome: A Pilot Study
Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and cervical cancer disproportionately impact Native American women relative to non-Hispanic White (NHW) women (1). According to Indian Health Service data from 1999 to 2009, Native American women had approximately a two-fold higher incidence and associated mortality rate than NHW women (2).

Editorial: Developments in the lithospheric evolution of the Indo-Pacific region
The Indo-Pacific is a biogeographic region between 30°north and south of the equator that stretches from the Polynesian Islands of the Pacific Ocean in the east to the Indian Ocean in the west (Spalding et al., 2007; Hobbs et al., 2009; Crandall et al., 2019).

Oligofructose improves small intestinal lipid-sensing mechanisms via alterations to the small intestinal microbiota
Microbiome, Aug 2023 Upper small intestinal dietary lipids activate a gut-brain axis regulating energy homeostasis. The prebiotic, oligofructose (OFS) improves body weight and adiposity during metabolic dysregulation but the exact mechanisms remain unknown. This study examines whether alterations to the small intestinal microbiota following OFS treatment improve small intestinal lipid-sensing to regulate food intake in high fat (HF)-fed rats.

U-Pb ages of Gongga Shan granite, western Sichuan and its implication to the tectonic evolutions of eastern Tibet
1 Introduction The Tibetan plateau results from the collision between the India Plate and Eurasia Plate since ca. 55 Ma (de Sigoyer et al., 2000; Garzanti, 2008) and associated crustal thickening, surface uplift, and magmatism. Cenozoic magmatism on the Tibetan plateau shows systematic variations in space and time that are related to Tibetan tectonic evolution (Zhang H. F. et al., 2004; Zhang P. et al., 2004; Zhang Y. et al., 2004; Chung et al., 2005; King et al., 2011; Wang et al., 2012).
Assessment of Large-Scale Indices of Surface Temperature during the Historical Period in the CMIP6 Ensemble
Abstract We develop a statistical method to assess CMIP6 simulations of large-scale surface temperature change during the historical period (1850–2014), considering all time scales, allowing for the different unforced variability of each model and the observations, observational uncertainty, and variable ensemble size. The generality of this method, and the fact that it incorporates information about the unforced variability, makes it a useful model assessment tool.
Krakatoa lives: The effect of volcanic eruptions on ocean heat content and thermal expansion
Abstract [1] A suite of climate model experiments indicates that 20th Century increases in ocean heat content and sea-level (via thermal expansion) were substantially reduced by the 1883 eruption of Krakatoa. The volcanically-induced cooling of the ocean surface is subducted into deeper ocean layers, where it persists for decades.

Cell or Small Group Ministry: An Essential Foundation for Christian Education, Discipleship, Leadership Development, and Church Growth
Abstract Small group ministry continues to be actively promoted as a key aspect of church growth in every culture. Dr. Gregory Lawson expounds on the continuing need for small groups in “Cell or Small Group Ministry: An Essential Foundation for Christian Education, Discipleship, Leadership Development, and Church Growth.” His article reminds us once again of the impact cells have on evangelism, pastoral care, and spiritual growth. Recommended Citation Lawson, J. G. (1998).
"Frank C. Laubach and the Challenge of Literary Evangelism" by J. Gregory Lawson
Abstract This article reviews the legacy of Frank Charles Laubach (1884-1970). Laubach pioneered an evangelistic approach often called “literary evangelism” whereby churches taught illiterate peoples to read and thereby witnessed for Christ. This approach has been effectively used on the mission field and may be an effective way to win people to Christ in the urban centers of North America.

Surveillance of intramedullary cartilage tumours in long bones
The Bone & Joint JournalVol. 98-B, No. 11 Oncology V. Sampath Kumar, P. N. M. Tyrrell, J. Singh, J. Gregory, G. L. Cribb, P. Cool Abstract Aims The purpose of this study was to determine if clinical and radiological surveillance of cartilage tumours with low biological activity is appropriate. Patients and Methods A total of 98 patients with an intramedullary cartilage neoplasm in a long bone met our inclusion criteria and were included in the study. These patients had undergone a total of 384 scans.
Transient climate response estimated from radiative forcing and observed temperature change
Abstract [1] Observations and simulations (using the HadCM3 AOGCM) of time‐dependent twentieth‐century climate change indicate a linear relationship F = ρΔT between radiative forcing F and global mean surface air temperature change ΔT. The same is a good description of ΔT from CMIP3 AOGCMs integrated with CO2 increasing at 1% per year compounded. The constant “climate resistance” ρ is related to the transient climate response (TCR, ΔT at the time of doubled CO2 under the 1% CO2 scenario).

MGMT Gene Silencing and Benefit from Temozolomide in Glioblastoma
Methylation-specific PCR was performed on 307 of 573 glioblastoma specimens (53.6 percent) from patients enrolled at 66 of 85 participating centers (Figure 1); adequate paraffin-embedded tumor tissue was not available from 266 patients. MGMT methylation status could be determined for 206 of the 307 tumors (67.1 percent), or 36.0 percent of the tumors from the overall study population.

Short-Course Radiation plus Temozolomide in Elderly Patients with Glioblastoma
Glioblastoma is associated with a poor prognosis in the elderly. Survival has been shown to increase among patients 70 years of age or younger when temozolomide chemotherapy is added to standard radiotherapy (60 Gy over a period of 6 weeks). In elderly patients, more convenient shorter courses of radiotherapy are commonly used, but the benefit of adding temozolomide to a shorter course of radiotherapy is unknown.
