Introduction Emergency airway management is routinely performed at all times of the day in hospitals across the UK. The Fourth National Audit Project of the Royal College of Anaesthetists and the Difficult Airway Society (NAP4) reported that approximately a quarter of major airway complications occur outside of the operating theatre in areas such as emergency departments and ICU [1, 2]. Events in these locations disproportionately led to permanent harm, including death and neurological damage.

The formation of PdZn bimetallic alloys on ZnO, TiO and Al O supports was investigated, together with the effect of alloy formation on the CO hydrogenation reaction. The chemical vapour impregnation (CVI) method produced PdZn nanoparticles with diameters of 3–6 nm. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction revealed the changes in the structure of the PdZn alloy that help stabilise formate intermediates during methanol synthesis.
