The only motorcycle ever to hold the outright land speed record, as well as being the fastest two-wheeled machine for over 20 years, quite a rap sheet. It's creator, Glenn Curtiss was not a mad, speed-obsessed, salt-flat junkie though, far from it. Glenn was a seriously accomplished aerospace engineer and designer of aircraft engines, one of which he decided to strap to what was basically a re-enforced bicycle frame.

A car that Clarkson once compared to sharing a bathtub with a space heater. The 147 GTA was wonderfully over-powered, the chassis ill-equipped to handle the infamous Busso V6 engine. What's more, the car was almost certain to break or fall apart in some manner and even Alfa's usually desirable styling was divisive among fans at release. One thing is for sure though, you're unlikely to find a crazier, more outlandish hot hatchback on the roads.
