Addiction recovery advocates are optimistic about this year, after closing out 2021 with governor Hochul signing a number of recovery based bills. Luke Grandis is a statewide organizer with VOCAL-NY. "We had our most successful legislative year in 2021 and so we really feel confident to continue that thanks to Governor Hochul being in office," he said.

With more than 30 years in the recovery community - Theresa Knorr with Friends of Recovery New York has seen quite a bit of change. In tonight's Dose of Reality - Jack Lamson shares her story, and where she thinks we need to go next.

Governor Hochul has now signed the final piece of a 3-part overdose prevention package. Earlier this year, she signed bills de-criminalizing syringe possession, and providing treatment to New Yorkers in jails and prisons. This final piece removes a major hurdle for those on Medicaid.
