Western astrophysicists find destruction, reformation of water in Orion Nebula
Western astrophysicists working in an international team have found evidence of an ocean’s worth of water formed and destroyed in the Orion Nebula each month. Els Peeters, a Western University astronomy professor, and his research team directed the James Webb Space Telescope towards a planet-forming disk in the Orion Nebula and found that the ultraviolet radiation of enormous stars there destructs and reforms water molecules in cycles.

Northeastern downs No. 14 Boston College in Gloucester
GLOUCESTER — Northeastern made the trip up to Gloucester, Massachusetts for a neutral site game against Boston College in celebration of the town’s 400th anniversary. The Huskies needed to bounce back after dropping a disappointing game at UVM the prior Tuesday, and the 14th overall Eagles stood in their way. Changes needed to be made. And the changes would come, although not necessarily by choice. Megan Carter and Lily Yovetich were missing from the lineup, both missing the game due to injury.
Boston voters to City Council: Fix housing, Mass. and Cass
Despite unseasonably warm weather and occasional sprinkles on Tuesday, Boston voters headed to their nearest polling stations to cast their ballots for City Council, motivated by issues of gentrification, housing and overall frustration with stagnant progress in the city. This year’s election promises at least four new faces in Boston’s 13-member City Council.
Cubeddu nets a pair to lift Northeastern over Merrimack
Entering Northeastern’s match against Merrimack on Tuesday, the storylines were focused on anything but soccer. On Monday morning, Merrimack’s decision to leave the NEC and join the MAAC was announced publicly, marking a major leap for the newly-transitioned Division 1 school after just four seasons in the NEC. But as the two sides clashed in a regional matchup to finish the non conference slate, the Warriors would have to check those external circumstances at the door.
Huskies draw with rival Terriers in defensive battle
The Dirty Water Derby. A fixture as classic as the Old Firm or El Clasico. Northeastern vs. Boston University. Everything to play for. The Huskies made the trip across town for the matchup against the Terriers at Nickerson Field, and after an interesting 90 minutes of play, would draw with their rival 1-1. The first half started out slowly, with each team taking the time to possess the ball and assess the other team’s shape and strategy.
Huskies make Cougars prey in Thursday’s victory
BROOKLINE — Over the course of the long, arduous CAA season, Northeastern has gone through several ups and downs. One of the downs came just last weekend, when they dropped a game to the Hofstra Pride by a narrow 1-0 margin. Occasionally, all a team needs to stop a skid is a bit of home cooking. After thoroughly defeating Hampton on home turf 10-0, it was clear that Northeastern preferred playing at Parson’s Field, coming into this match with a 3-1-2 home record.
Huskies halted by hot Wildcats, drop second in a row
BROOKLINE — After dropping a disappointing match against the Campbell Camels, Northeastern came back home to Parsons Field for a matchup against a New Hampshire side that received ranking votes. After 90 minutes of lopsided action, the Huskies would find themselves on the wrong end of a 3-0 scoreline. The match opened with UNH dominating the ball. Their back four was oozing composure, simply playing the ball horizontally across the pitch using one another.
Northeastern pushed by LIU, but earns weekend sweep behind two shutout victories
After splitting their opening-weekend series against No. 11 Penn State, Northeastern looked to reset down in Long Island with a matchup against the Sharks, a team the Huskies’ had a clear talent edge over on paper. Though LIU hung tight with Northeastern and kept both games close, the Huskies came away with shutout victories in both contests — winning Friday’s game 6-0, and the rematch on Saturday 2-0, with both scores coming in the third period.

Six-straight Hockey East Championships. Three-straight Frozen Four appearances. One NCAA Championship game appearance. Two Beanpots. Six years of unprecedented dominance. That is what Northeastern women’s hockey has provided rabid Husky hockey fans in recent times. This season, things look a little different. Gone are the familiar faces of Alina Müller, Chloé Aurard, and Maureen Murphy, three of the greatest offensive players Northeastern has ever seen.

Huskies bounce back with big win against Stonehill
BROOKLINE — Coming off of a heartbreaking defeat against Harvard in the Baseball Beanpot, the Northeastern baseball team needed to bounce back in quick fashion. Luckily, they had the chance less than 24 hours later against Stonehill. The Huskies entered Wednesday’s game at the Friedman Diamond with an impressive 22-5 record, compared to the measly 3-19 Skyhawks. It was an excellent opportunity to set things straight, and Northeastern did just that with a dominant 10-0 win.

Huskies pull away late, extend win streak to six with road victory over Central Connecticut
Following a three-game sweep of Hartford the past weekend, Northeastern set their sights on their next midweek opponent: Central Connecticut State. Unlike his last start, which was a little bit shaky, Cabral got off to a hot beginning.

In their final nonconference series before CAA games begin, Northeastern faced their toughest challenge yet against a strong Bulls side.
Traditional exhibition against Red Sox returns
For most of the leadup to Friday’s exhibition game between Northeastern and the Boston Red Sox, question marks surrounded whether the Huskies would be able to make the trip down to Fort Myers. Thankfully, a last-minute red eye flight to the Sunshine State would see the resumption of a time-honored tradition between two historic Boston baseball programs.
Huskies win opening series of the season against UNC Greensboro
To the ire of most northern college baseball programs, there is no dedicated spring training season to shake off the cobwebs of a lengthy offseason. What most programs have to do is use the early games of the season as a makeshift spring training. Using the early slots of the nonconference portion of the season to play baseball in the south is a common remedy to the cold weather back home.
Quentin Tarantino’s iconoclastic obsessions
Quentin Tarantino’s inevitable first volume of film writing presents a challenge: how can an established artist, especially one this famous, pivot to criticism? No matter how insightful his opinions, it runs the risk of merely illuminating what he values as a filmmaker. To his credit, Cinema Speculation doesn’t pretend it’s not taking you through a highly personal journey of one man’s cinematic obsessions. The tone isn’t too far off from the hundreds of interviews he’s given for thirty years.
Troutman, Telfort tear up Seawolves in big win
In the massive mire of mid-major men’s basketball, matchups between middle-of-the-pack teams come to define seasons. On Thursday, two teams squarely in the middle of the CAA, Northeastern and Stony Brook, found themselves in a head-to-head matchup with each team sharing similar conference records thus far: The Huskies arrived on Long Island with a 3-3 CAA record, while the Seawolves had a game in hand with a 3-2 record in conference play.
The Whale is meant to hurt you
The screen begins on black; a slow reverse zoom reveals that we’re looking at a laptop screen during a Zoom meeting. We think we’re watching a film reflecting the realities of Covid. But it’s 2016, and the black screen in the middle (reading “instructor” in the lower right-hand corner) belongs to our protagonist, Charlie (Brendan Fraser). He’s teaching an online English class, going through the motions of a job that means very little to him.
Huskies stunned by Maine for first loss of the season
ORONO, Maine — For a team as consistently successful and high-achieving as the Northeastern women’s hockey team, poor performances are exceedingly rare. But on Saturday, it was immediately obvious the Huskies just didn’t have their usual precision and dominant form.
Huskies snap five-game skid behind late score
BROOKLINE — The two opponents in Tuesday night’s rivalry battle at Parsons Field entered the match on complete opposite trajectories. Legowski lifts Huskies to victory in season opener
For the second straight year, the Huskies kicked off their season against crosstown rival Boston University. In last year’s installment, BU came away with a dominant 2-0 victory over Northeastern at Parsons Field. Early on, the Terriers were controlling nearly every facet play.

Junior designated hitter Corey DiLoreto hammered a double in his first at bat to get the offense going.

Huskies Sweep Pride to Remain Undefeated in Conference
By Jack Sinclair BROOKLINE, MA — Baseball is a beautiful game. It provides some of the most famous underdog stories in sports. So often, outmatched opponents pull out wins from under the noses of much better teams. Northeastern has taken this and flipped it on its head. Very few teams in college baseball have been as consistent as the Huskies, and they proved it again on Sunday with an 11–0 win over the Hofstra Pride.
Pride and Pop Outs: Huskies beat Hofstra 13-1

The Huskies entered the CAA matchup undefeated in conference play (11–0), while the Pride came in with a 6–9 record.

Northeastern comes close but falls short at ODU
Sadie Parker The Northeastern baseball team fell in this weekend’s series against Old Dominion University, with a record of 3-4. Jack Sinclair, news staff March 9, 2021 Tight games are a baseball postseason staple. Women’s Hockey Fries Friars Again
By Jack Sinclair When two of the best goaltenders in Hockey East face off, the game is almost always going to be a low scoring, defensive battle. But not when one of the two teams is the Northeastern women’s hockey team. The Huskies hit the ice as if yesterday’s 4–1 win had never ended. They looked fresh despite the 20-hour turnaround. Providence didn’t. Northeastern was outskating the Friars to every loose puck and cycling the puck in the offensive zone like it was the middle of the third period.
