QUEBEC — Kids under 16 will no longer have access to energy drinks in Quebec after legislators voted Thursday to make the province the first in Canada to enact a ban on sales of the drinks for youth. The bill responds to the 2024 death of 15-year-old Zachary Miron, who died after a Red Bull he drank interacted with his medication. Under the legislation, it will become illegal to sell or give energy drinks to kids.

QUEBEC — Should he win the October election, Parti Québécois Leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon says he would block Ottawa’s plan to build a high-speed rail line through Quebec. The Quebec portion of the line would cost Ottawa close to $40 billion, St-Pierre Plamondon said in a statement on Tuesday, citing Bloc Québécois calculations that estimate the entire Toronto to Quebec City route could run as high as $200 billion.
